A Polished Life

My lovely original jarrah floorboards are one of the reasons i bought my little fremantle cottage. The floorboards are about 80 years old, like the house, and have probably been repolished a dozen times, and its definitely been time for a clean up, for a while.

The floor polishers took three days all up, for three bedrooms and a hallway - the first day the sanded down the old polish, and then used a different fine grain polisher to smooth over the uneven floor boards.

Removing the polish

A sander crossed with a vacuum cleaner.

Wood paste goes down over the bigger gaps/cracks.

After the fine polish.

Fine polisher.

After day one : )

Putting putty down before the second polishing and varnishing.

During the eight hours after the polish goes down, you can't open any windows or access the house to stop dust landing on the smooth surface...

All finished now :)
