Herringbone #2

There are lots of standard things about the house - but i really wanted a simple kitchen, with open shelving, lots of bench space and a herringbone, tiled splash back.

Herringbone because its a elegant weave, with historical context and somehow a little bit of 'class'. It ties the new extension in with the original build nicely and helps to mesh the traditional with the modern in a way that matching everything could never succeed in.

The Amano tiles, from Academy Tiles in Sydney look, and indeed are, handmade. I love how it's completely uneven and organic, but in a totally formal pattern. My tiler wasn't so enthusiastic about it, but i like giving a tradey a challenge (the AC people were a lot less happy about me putting the drain in the cavity of the double brick wall that used to be the back of the house - but thats another store for another post - once they actually finish it).
