About a month ago I promised myself I wouldn’t
order, buy or think about getting anything for the house until it has been
finished.
No more house magazines, paint samples,
tile samples, light fittings or handles.
I knew there had to come an end to the
handles I’d need.
The amount of juice the ‘building’ industry
must make from the associated businesses is unthinkable and enormous.
I’m still waiting for the handles I ordered
off Ebay to arrive, and feeling seriously impatient, I reached for a magazine.
A dangerous move, but then im a risky kind of person, and like a dieter waiting
to reach the end of the detox, I indulged in the worst kind of magazine.
Maisons Cote Sud.
They feature the best use of colours –
international and casual and chic all at the same time. Makes me want to rip
out my grey and white kitchen and use red benchtops and green wall paint.
Somehow they make it work!
At least everything is written in French;
and since I haven’t practiced that since high school, I can’t figure where to
buy anything featured in the publication J
Anyway – while I talk myself out of
painting each brick a different colour on the outside of the house (thankfully
my Strata laws wouldn’t allow it anyway) – the brickies brick on.
Laundry back wall
I went to the site yesterday morning and I must
say – its so over exciting right now! Every day there is a new wall or
something hip and cool to get excited about!
The back wall of the laundry has gone up –
this needs to be bricked – and the wood structure on which the weatherboard
exterior will be mounted, will go up around it in the coming weeks.
The windows are now all in place – still no
glazing – but windows all the same!
My skinny louvre opening and south facing
windows are in place and look great. Its amazing getting to see the view from
the inside and knowing how it will look when you are sitting in the room.
The builders tell me this is the most
exciting part. After this – apart from the roof – its mostly electrical cables,
plumbing and finishing off walls: and doesn’t feel like many big changes take
place. Ill keep going over every day and hoping!
