Let the tiling begin!

Scheduling of an international airport's runway must be very difficult, with commercial flights, last minute changes, cargo flights and private flights. Im so amazed it all manages to 'flow'. They must be very skilled.

Scheduling of the finishing's, that is the tiling, painting, installing light fittings and furnishings, the last parts of any building project, is so much more difficult.

If each part doesn't go into the time frame originally allocated, you can't say: "Tradey: your job time slot has been pushed back 18minutes, please wait for your approach to the South runway".. You can try, but will more than likely hear one of two responses:

1. It's Friday. I don't work after noon on Friday. Actually i'm already at the pub.

2. hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha next available time is in 16 weeks. I'll send you a huge invoice for the call out anyway. Bye!

This process is obviously made somewhat more challenging if you decide to leave the country for the bulk of the duration of this part of the project.

In a way, i'm sure it's made life a lot easier for the trades: not having me float around changing things. And also - as it's a very slow time while change things (like wiring) need to be done, and seem to happen without anything visibly changing - so actually better for owner to make herself scarce - so it will go faster.

So where are things standing now?.... Here's a few pictures:

Somehow - ended up with dents in the bath - so looks like the lovely tub may need to be replaced. C'est la vie - but here it is in situ anyway.. Ill check out the dents tomorrow and make a plan.

Ho'kay! Here be the underfloor heating - starting to be screed on top of. Can't wait to use that.

Going.. going...

gone!! there's a swatch of the floor tiles who will make their new home in this bathroom. Big fan :)

The kitchen end of the back room. Turn left for hallway, turn right for garden.

Tiles (which must have been a huge pain to move into this room. Sorry Justin.

A waterproofed and ready to tile ensuite shower nook.

Waterproofing and prepping the bathroom!! ZOMG! Its too exciting.

The diagonal lay of terrazzo tiles (from Fibonacci Stone in Melbourne) begins. This is the last edge of the jarrah floorboards from the original house (hallway) and where the new room starts. Purdy.

And tiling along the west-wall into the kitchen end of the room.

tile glue!

WOW! Just keeps expanding! I love my tiles!! Its hard to 'feel' the scale of the room from the picture - but those tiles are 300x300mm and the back wall is 4m wide.

I've no idea really what i will arrive to tomorrow - but i have been lucky enough to get some sneaky photos of the start of the tiling work beginning. So very very cool!
